At Skin & Scar Clinic, we provide breast uplift surgery you can rely on to be safe and affordable. This procedure isn’t for everyone, however, which is why we recommend you read through the following guidance.
Breast uplift is referred to as ‘mastopexy’ in surgery terms.
Breast uplifts are operations we perform to remove extra loose skin from breasts. We also use it to lift and reshape breasts in order to make them look more youthful.
Breasts typically droop after pregnancy and breastfeeding and naturally with age. It can also happen after weight loss. This is due to the skin and fibrous ligaments in the breast becoming stretched to the point where the breast tissue can no longer be supported.
We can’t recreate the fibrous tissue that supports breasts, but we can reshape the bust by removing extra skin, remodelling the remaining tissue and moving the nipples upwards to a better position.
Another option we sometimes turn to is to reduce the size of the areola (the dark skin around the nipple) or to have the breasts enlarged at the same time.
If you have breast uplift surgery, you’ll typically end up with a bust that is firmer and higher. This makes some people feel more comfortable in social situations and happier with their body image. We find the best results come if you have small, saggy breasts, but breasts of any size can be lifted.
It should be noted that if you have heavy breasts, the uplift may not last as long.
We want to be sure breast uplift surgery is right for you, which is why we’ll hold an initial consultation with you to find out why you want to have the operation.
During the consultation, we will make a note of your medical condition and records, along with any medication you might be taking. We’ll also ask you to sign a consent form if you’re happy for our surgeon to examine your breasts and take photos for medical records. You are more than welcome to bring someone with you during the consultation if that makes you feel more comfortable.
If you’re planning on becoming pregnant or are overweight, our surgeon may recommend that the operation is delayed.
There are a number of methods we use for breast uplift surgery. The exact method we choose will depend on your breast size and the result you want.
Different types of uplift leave different scars on breasts, but regardless of the uplift we perform, those scars won’t be visible when you wear normal clothing, bras and bikini tops.
The most common method we use is to cut around your areola and vertically up your breast. Sometimes, we may need to make a cut in the crease under the breast to form an anchor shape.
We then remove extra skin from underneath the breast and reshape what remains into a higher cone. Your nipple will also be moved to a higher level and, if you wish, the size of the areola reduced.
If your breasts are also small, we can enlarge them for you with silicone implants. This is the only way to significantly increase the fullness of your breasts above the nipples, but their weight may result in the breast drooping again over time.
We simply ask patients to be as healthy as possible in the lead up to the operation. That means a steady diet, regular exercise, and if you smoke, stopping at least six weeks before the operation.
You won’t need to remove hair, but we will ask you to have a shower or bath within 24 hours before the operation to ensure the area is as clean as possible.
